11 gift ideas to give at a baby shower

At some point, we all have the opportunity to attend a shower to celebrate the upcoming birth of a new baby. Whether it's for your best friend's new child or your sister-in-law and brother's baby, the shower gift is a nice touch to celebrate the arrival of a newborn.
It is especially perfect for helping parents obtain the items they will need to welcome their baby. And often, we ask ourselves the question: what am I giving? And 1 in 3 times, it's often very cute, but not practical!
Then the day comes when it's your own shower. That's when you realize that there's nothing better than receiving items (or services!) that you really need. Personally, I hate receiving something I don't need. It must be said that I am a fairly minimalist person basically who likes to have on hand the things I need, as much as possible.
I offer you 11 gift ideas that I think are great for the new mother and her baby. I warn you, this is based on my personal experience.
1. A gift card from a local caterer
Unless you have a super kind and efficient mother-in-law, small meals and snacks end up wearing out. And in the first three months, it's rare that you want to worry about making food for a newborn. It has to be simple and quick.
And between you and me, we all need to eat. The housekeeping can wait a bit.

2. A small set for baby care
Good. It will be a big “melting pot” of products from different brands. On the other hand, I present to you my favorites, based on my experience. I've tried several things, and some have been a big no no.
Background: I have had two babies with recurrent eczema. I took care to prevent diaper rash and my children suffered from bronchiolitis and/or ear infections.
- Atoderm shower oil from Bioderma, available at Jean Coutu .
It can be used on babies' delicate skin and hair. It is an oil that moisturizes and is perfect for babies' sensitive skin. I use it myself in the shower.
- CeraVe moisturizing cream, available in pharmacies and supermarkets
This is the only cream that has helped my two babies' eczema. I tried several before having good results.
- Softness powder with white clay from Souris Verte
This product is magical! I liked to put a little Softness Powder on my butt as a prevention, at all times. I used this product for both my children.
- Cream for diaper rash, maximum concentration of Desitin , available in pharmacies and supermarkets
Teeth, antibiotics. Sometimes diaper rash sets in without warning. Clean the irritated buttocks with clean water and a small soft towel. We gently dry and brush the pussy with this cream. Repeat with each diaper change until the skin heals.
- Souris Verte “Poush-Poush” eucalyptus mist
This product has certainly offered comfort to my sick babies. We put it religiously in bed every night. Still today. Sick not sick. It smells like a spa!
- Gom.mee cradle cap care kit
Haaa the famous cradle cap! What's wonderful about this kit is that it includes a gentle shampoo, a small oil to soften the dander at the bottom of the head and a small gentle brush so as not to irritate the scalp. A practical product to offer to new mothers.
3. Evolutionary pants
Well, you expected it, that’s for sure! It's impossible for me to ignore my progressive pants. The 0-12 month size is really great and it lasts a very long time. Especially since the Comfort model can be worn by a baby with washable or disposable diapers. That's a big plus!
If you have the chance to offer clothes older than 3 months, this is ideal. For what? Because babies grow quickly and these little clothes don't last long. We prioritize evolving and soft fabrics such as cotton, bamboo or lyocell. Plus, larger sizes are ideal for later, since it's a safe bet that the new mom has already gone on a small raid on tiny clothes.

4. A gift card from a local pharmacy
When we become a Mom, it's our second home. We spend a lot of time there, even just to get out of the house for a bit. Medicines, products and care for babies, products to do good for Mom (yes, yes!), the pharmacy is a must.

5. A book, used or new
My sister-in-law had the idea of asking my shower guests to offer a used or new book, with a little personalized message. I loved this idea. I still have all the books that were given to me and we often read the stories with the children. I think it’s a nice touch. Reading is truly a beautiful gift that lasts a very long time!

6. Diapers, washable or disposable
It costs so much and I guarantee it will be useful!

7. A photo session with the newborn
I find it to be a priceless gift that will be cherished for a lifetime. It's really valuable. I don't have any photo shoots with my babies, only maternity photos. I have to admit that I regret it.

8. Neka 's nursing pillow, whether the mother is breastfeeding or not
I love this cushion. I breastfed my Léo for 5 months and Émile for 2 weeks. And you know what? I still use it today with Émile, aged 18 months, for co-sleeping. To rock a baby in the middle of a nap and hold their arms together (because I guarantee the new mother will do it), it's a really good product. As it is made in length, you can install it as you want.

9. A good baby carrier that offers support
There are so many on the market. It is better to choose it with the mother. On the other hand, it's really a good purchase 95% of the time! My best purchase was the Ergobaby Omni 360 , Émile lived in it for several months. Both during outings and for naps.

10. A small set for the first meals
I received a small set including silicone bibs, a suction plate and small utensils. We agree that it's not the first thing the baby will use, but I really liked this gift. And these are products that can be used for a long time.
11. A bamboo and cotton muslin
Without surprise. Muslins are a must. With the softness and comfort they provide, they are a lovely gift choice to include in a gift basket.

After reading these suggestions, you might say to yourself, “Okay, that’s super convenient, but there are so many cute things you can buy!” " And you're right. It's appropriate to offer little touches and little surprises like a pacifier clip, a cute dog, a beautiful bib, etc. When we know the parents' interests, it's a nice touch.
On the other hand, be aware that practical things are likely to be used much longer and cute little things will be abandoned more quickly.
I bought pacifier clips that I never used because they were ZERO practical. Much too big, or they couldn't be washed in the machine or with a brush in the sink, etc. But they were so cute and really perfect for taking photos!
I hope this gave you some ideas!
